Anna Maria Island Butterfly Park

The Anna Maria Island Butterfly Park was created in 1999. The park was the brainchild of Connie Hodgson of Bradenton and Nancy Ambrose an island resident and lover of butterflies. A special thanks to the city of Holmes Beach for their support and providing use of city lands for the park.

The Manatee County Library System has six locations to serve the public. It is a full service library system and has a collection which includes books, periodicals, newspapers, video & audio materials and more. It also has a full range of activities and meeting rooms available for public use.

Though the Moose fraternal organization was founded in the late 1800s with the modest goal of offering men an opportunity to gather socially, it was reinvented during the first decade of the 20th century into an organizational dynamo of men and women who set out to build a city that would brighten the futures of thousands of children in need all across North America.

American Jewish Committee (AJC), established in 1906 by a small group of American Jews deeply concerned about pogroms aimed at Russian Jews, determined that the best way to protect Jewish populations in danger would be to work towards a world in which all peoples were accorded respect and dignity.

Anna Maria Island Historical Society

The Anna Maria Island Historical Society was formed in 1990 by Anna Maria residents Pat Copeland and Carolyne Norwood, both reporters for the Islander newspaper. Mayor Ray Simches gave them the idea. They knew something must be done to preserve Island artifacts, which were being lost. Soon more residents joined to support this goal. The non-profit, educational organization was incorporated in 1991.

Anna Maria Island Privateers

The Anna Maria Island Privateers was established as a Not For Profit group in 1971 by a small group of individuals interested in being a support group for needed island youth programs. Their Charter goals were to promote activities for the betterment of youth, to render service to the community and to participate in area events.

Sarasota County Arts Council

In 1988 the Arts Council`s role as an arts advocate was initiated with the issue of the tourist development tax. The council lobbied to have a portion of the hotel bed tax distributed to arts and cultural institutions, and took on the responsibility of administering this tax, known as Tourist Development/Cultural Arts Grants (TDC).
